Overview

As friends and role models, Erie DAWN's mentors work one-on-one with program participants. Their encouragement and support is most important to each woman's actualizing a goal plan for herself while in the housing phase of the Erie DAWN program.

Mentor Requirements

The mentor program welcomes any adult woman who is open to listening, sharing her life experiences and supporting a new friend

Mentor Training

A 12 hour training is requested of all prospective mentors. Presentations are offered free twice a year by staff and professionals specializing in the relevant areas.  After completing the course, participants may be eligible to mentor for women associated not only with Erie DAWN, but with other community agencies working on behalf of women.  Mentor Training encompasses the following:

  • Understanding Women in Transition
  • Building Self-esteem
  • Domestic Violence Issues
  • Drug, Alcohol and Mental Illnesses Awareness
  • Maintaining Boundaries
  • Multi-cultural Sensitivity
  • Problem Solving Techniques
  • Erie DAWN Housing Component
